About the project

The Himalayan Devis Project started in partnership with Maharishi Vedic University (MVU), Maharishi European Research University (MERU) and Appropriate Technology India (ATI), with the objective of promoting Vedic Technologies of Consciousness and its practical techniques of meditation for social and economic development of communities in the Himalayan region, especially village women.

Since the beginning, this project has aimed at bringing the Vedic Tradition of the Himalayas back to the region where it has come from and reviving the ancient knowledge of Veda through the village women. Our desire was to support their spiritual and inner growth while also attending to their outer financial needs.

The Vedic Technologies of Consciousness and its practical techniques were brought about by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi ji, who was taught by his master, Guru Dev, Swami Brahmananda Saraswati from Jyotirmath, and made it available to the whole world.

Why the himalayan women?

The Himalayan women are incredibly strong and have a vast indigenous knowledge about nature.

They are anchored in their traditions and very devoted to their families and their spiritual beliefs. Despite the many hardships and challenges they face, they are simple and extremely caring, pure-hearted ladies, full of motherly love.

Their usual everyday work includes farming, cooking, cleaning, carrying heavy weights up and down the mountains, taking care of cows, of children, husbands and in-laws. Premature ageing  and diseases are consequence of their high level of physical and mental exhaustion.

Himalayas will always be Himalayas. They will always be at the top of the world. (...) So Himalayas will always be the guiding light of purity, of affluence, of gaining authority in Nature.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Woman is at the top of creation. This is her  place and her dharma, and this she must never lose. For if she does, there will be wars, suffering and cruelty, because she is the opposite of all these things

HIMALAYAN DEVIS

In the words of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi ji,

If World Peace is to be established,

peace in the individual must be established first.

The Knowledge taught by Maharishi ji is not a new Knowledge.

Even in India, the simple and highly effective practice of the Vedic Technologies of Consciousness has been forgotten over time. Spirituality is still of great importance in the culture of the Himalayas - the outward religious practices continue but the inner experience of Being has been missing.

It is that Knowledge, the Knowledge of the Self, which has been revived by Guru Dev and Maharishi ji

Shivam Shantam Advaitam Chaturtham Manyante Sa Atmaa Saa Vigeya

The Knowledge of the Vedas has come from this land.
The seeds of its revival were planted by Guru Dev in this divine soil which was his home.

From the Holy Mountains of the Himalayas, through the Mothers of this land, we can radiate Peace to the whole World.
